How to convert a PDF table to Excel

Copy-pasting a table out of a PDF usually wrecks the columns. PDF to Excel detects tables and writes them into a real XLSX workbook so you can sort, filter and calculate.

Steps

  1. Open PDF to Excel. Upload the PDF that contains the tables.
  2. Choose the layout. One sheet per PDF page, or every table combined on a single sheet.
  3. Convert and download. Open the XLSX in Excel or Google Sheets.
  4. Check headers and merged cells. A quick look catches the few cells that need tidying.

Good to know

  • It works on PDFs with real tables. Free-flowing text or image scans may give an empty or sparse sheet.
  • For a scanned table, run OCR PDF first so there is text to read.
  • Only table content is extracted; colours and styling are not reproduced.

Frequently asked questions

The PDF probably has no detectable table structure or is a scan. Try OCR PDF first.
