What is PDF to PDF/A?
PDF to PDF/A converts a PDF into PDF/A, the ISO standard for long-term archiving. A PDF/A file is self-contained, so it can still be opened and displayed the same way years from now.
Common uses
- Legal and government records. Submit documents to bodies that require archival PDF/A.
- Long-term storage. Keep reports and contracts in a format designed to last.
- Library and records management. Meet digital preservation requirements.
- Consistent display. Avoid dependence on external resources that may disappear.

Tips for best results
- Most PDFs from Word, LibreOffice or "Print to PDF" already embed fonts and convert cleanly.
- Check which PDF/A level your recipient actually requires.
- Interactive features and JavaScript are removed, as PDF/A requires.
- Keep the original; PDF/A conversion produces a new file.
